A tragic hit-and-run incident on Wednesday claimed the life of 50-year-old Police Sergeant Antonio Rochester of the Marine Department, who served in the Royal Barbados Police Force for over 30 years. The incident occurred around 1:50 p.m. on Tudor Bridge main road, St. Michael, when Rochester was struck by a motor truck. The vehicle continued for a distance before crashing into a wall, after which the driver fled the scene on foot.
Sergeant Rochester was pronounced dead at the scene. Fellow officers and police spokesperson Inspector Rodney Inniss expressed deep sorrow at the loss, remembering Rochester as a “joyous” colleague. The police have launched a manhunt and are appealing to the public for any information about the driver. Anyone with details is urged to contact police emergency services or the Black Rock Police Station.
